Applicants for regular membership, transferring from another jurisdiction, must do some required reading under
ss 39.3(3)of the Rules. A statutory declaration stating that the reading was done and understood must be submitted with an application for regular membership.

NB. Though not required for the purposes of transferring, we encourage applicants to acqaint themselves with the culture, geography, and history of Nunavut and its people using the supplemental reading material.

Annual Membership Renewal Application

Application for Change of Status from Inactive to Active Membership

Application for Restricted Appearance Certificate

All the necessary forms and information required to apply for a restricted membership in the Law Society of Nunavut. A Restricted Appearance Certificate authorizes a lawyer to practice in the Nunavut jurisdiction on a particular case or set of related matters for a limited term. Application to renew Restricted Appearance Certificate

For those members who are already authorized to practice under a restricted term, please find the forms necessary to renew your Restricted Appearance Certificate. This office requires at least 10 (ten) days prior the expiry date of your term to process your renewal forms.Please note that if your term under a Restricted Appearance Certificate has expired, you cannot renew it but must reapply. Civil and International Credentials

The Law Society of Nunavut recognizes that foreign lawyers, Canadian citizens with a foreign Law Degree, or lawyers educated in the Province of Quebec with a Civil Law Degree, may wish to apply for regular membership in the Law Society of Nunavut.

An applicant will be deemed eligible to make application for regular membership in the Law Society of Nunavut, upon receipt of a completed report from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA), which confirms that:

  • The Applicant's academic training experience and qualifications are equivalent to those of a person who has graduated from a recognized Canadian Common Law LL.B. program; and
  • no further legal training is required.
In connection with decisions about Restricted Appearance Certificates or regular membership, the Executive and the Membership and Admissions Committees may require reasonable updating information or other confirmation about the status of the applicant's NCA application, or his/her standing in another jurisdiction.
