CBA – NUNAVUT BRANCH REBATE
July 2012
The Law Society is offering resident lawyers a $100 rebate to renew their CBA membership or become new members. The goal is to encourage resident lawyers to take advantage of the activities offered by the Nunavut branch of the CBA. A cheque will be issued to the member or the organization that paid the member’s fees once the Law Society has verified membership with the CBA. NOTICE TO THE BAR:
General Meetings of the Canadian Bar Association, Nunavut Branch and two Sections will be held
WHEN: Tuesday October 30th, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. ET
WHERE: JP Courtroom Arnakallak Building (Building 224), Iqaluit Nunavut
The General Meeting is being held, on the Branch Executive Committee’s direction, for the following purposes:
- To receive the President’s written report of 2011-12 Branch activities.
- To receive the Branch financial reports and budget and appoint an auditor.
- To adjourn and constitute, very brief 2012 AGM meetings for
- the Nunavut Aboriginal Law Section
- the Nunavut Environment, Energy and Resources Law Section
4. To report on and complete the following elections as appropriate
- Branch Executive Officers (3 positions open under the bylaws)
- Three (3) Aboriginal Law section offices (required by section bylaws);
- Three (3) Environment, Energy and Resources law section offices (required by bylaws)
5. To discuss Branch activities, operations and priorities for 2012-13.
6. To receive member’s statements and to transact such other business as may be properly raised.
Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be served.
The CBA Nunavut Branch is pleased to welcome Robert Brun, Q.C., the CBA National President for 2012-2013 and John D.V. Hoyles, the CEO of the CBA as guests at our General Meeting.

The Elections are being held, during the CBA Nunavut Branch Annual General Meeting on Tuesday October 30th, 2012.
The elections are at the Branch Executive Committee’s direction and with consent from the above-referenced Sections.
Additional information about the available positions can be obtained through contact with any Branch or Section officer.
A nomination form is attached as Appendix “A”. If you wish to stand for election or to nominate a member of the Branch for election to the Executive Committee you are asked to complete the nomination form and return it to the Branch by:
5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 22nd, 2012
If fewer or more nominations are received than required, the election including any required balloting will be completed at the General Meetings, October 30th, 2012.
Otherwise the nominees will be acclaimed and announced at the General Meeting.
Please give consideration to nominating a candidate or putting your own name forward. The continued success of our Branch depends on volunteer effort and commitment.
