International Credentials

The Law Society of Nunavut recognizes that foreign lawyers and Canadian citizens with a foreign Law Degree may wish to apply for regular membership in the Law Society of Nunavut. Qualifications for membership are detailed under s. 18 of the Legal Profession Act.

An applicant will be deemed eligible to make application for regular membership in the Law Society of Nunavut, upon receipt of a completed report from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA), which confirms that:

  • The Applicant’s academic training experience and qualifications are equivalent to those of a person who has graduated from a recognized Canadian Common Law LL.B. program; and
  • The Applicant is given the opportunity to access the bar admission process.

In connection with decisions about Restricted Appearance Certificates (RAC) or regular membership, the Executive and the Membership and Admissions Committees may require reasonable updated information or other confirmation about the status of the applicant’s NCA application, or his/her standing in another jurisdiction.
