Immigration legal matters often surface in family, criminal, employment, and corporate law. Criminal charges can lead to the deportation of permanent residents. Divorce, separation, getting fired, or changing jobs can impact a client's immigration status. The mechanisms for employing from overseas, and the immigration possibilities for international entities interested in setting up in the Yukon, are often of interest to corporate clients. This presentation aims to provide some general information to lawyers as to what to look out for, and how to best support their clients through an immigration lens.

Presenters:
Rowan Fisher is the Founder and Managing Lawyer of Fisher Law, an immigration and refugee firm with lawyers across Canada and in the Gulf. She is the Chair of the CBA Alberta South Immigration Section, the Director of Programming for the Calgary Justice Film Festival, and an incoming Adjunct Professor for the Gdip-ICL program at Queen's University, Faculty of Law. The Fisher Law team is a diverse group of multilingual lawyers, is community focused, and participates in pro bono clinics, gives free presentations for most major resettlement organizations in Alberta, and trains front line and care workers in the newcomer space. Now running a pilot pro bono immigration clinic in Whitehorse, and starting to build a client base throughout the Yukon, Rowan is very excited to connect with more lawyers in the territory and see how Fisher Law can best support their practices with access to dedicated immigration services for their clients.
Amna Bhatti is a human rights lawyer currently working at the Yukon Human Rights Commission, as well as practicing immigration and refugee law with Fisher Law. Amna is working remotely with the Fisher Law team to provide immigration legal services and information to the Yukon community.
Amna moved to Canada in 2016 after finishing her BA-LL.B. in Pakistan. She completed her LL.M. at Osgoode Hall Law School. After getting licensed in Ontario, Amna worked as a Legal Advisor with Lawyers for Human Rights in South Africa. In that position Amna undertook large-scale research projects for their Penal Reform as well as Gender Equality Programmes. She then moved to Yukon to work at the Human Rights Commission as Legal Counsel and Human Rights Officer leading reviews to policies, programs, and legislation and investigating cases of discrimination and harassment under the Yukon Human Rights Act. Outside of the law, Amna is passionate about the environment and currently serves on the board of the Yukon Conservation Society.
